1980 Gibson ES-335

Located in Seattle, WA

Up for sale is a wonderful sounding 1980 Gibson ES-335 in its original Tobacco Sunburst finish. This instrument is a bit of a transition era guitar as it doesn’t have the trapeze tailpiece and coil tap switch the late 70s 335s had but it also is not the early 80s Dot Reissue 335 that came out in 1981. Features of this instrument include a chunky neck profile, volute, tune-o-matic bridge, Gibson branded tuners and a set of ink stamped humbuckers. The pickups are a bit of an anomaly. Age wise they appear consistent with the rest of the guitar but the bottoms lack a Gibson engraved patent number and instead are both ink stamped “15003”. The stamp itself is consistent with the stamping Gibson used in this era but the 15503 number was used on the stickers of ’57 Classics which Gibson did not produce until the 1990s. The previous owner has had this guitar since the late 1980s and did not change them. That all said, the pickups do sound very nice. Overall this one is in very good condition less some buckle wear, scattered dings / dents and light play wear. Pro setup in house and comes complete with its original hard case.
